Project Civic ~ C.A.I.

Project Civic gets a new little piece of hardware, in the form of an Arospeed Air Funnel Kit to be integrated into its intake system when she's set to go for a major exterior makeover sometime soon. I've been using an oped pod intake setup as a replacement for the restrictive stock intake system ~ superior airflow capability gives potentially greater power gains at a relatively low cost. The issue with this intake setup however is that it takes in hot air from the engine bay.
Hot air = less dense = lesser oxygen molecules per cubic foot than cold air = less oxygen = weaker combustion = less power
which, explains the sluggish-revving-engine-on-a-hot-day symptom... it awakens from its slumber sleep, always more eager to run at night, when the ambient temperature is much lower.
This Cold-Air-Intake funnel upgrade should complement my current intake setup well by channeling cold air front the front of the car/fender & feeding it directly to the intake system. Now the question is where do i mount the bling-bling funnel mouth? Drill a hole & fit it on my lower front bumper or discreetly hide it behind the fog light housing? ^_*

Better think carefully bout this one dude....I had mine installed on the right hand side of my bumper and realised that maybe there isn't enough air coming in since I blocked the entire open pod intake with a customised heat shield. I would really suggest you put it right up front but that would require an EG6 front bumper cos there is no insane way you can drill your EG8 bumper in the front cos there is no movement for the funnel to be brought to the front. Have a good think bout it...

had mine flush mounted on a 60deg angle to the front on the stock EG8 bumper. Not really having incoming air deficiency problem coz i'm feeding the funnel straight into the intake pipe; no filter, just a coarse wire mesh on the funnel mouth on the outside & 2-layer fine wire mesh on the intake mouth.... engine revs much freer from the mid all the way to the high rpm range; only feels a little sluggish on the low sub-4k rpm region where the engine speed is not high enough to create a strong suction effect. it idles a bit funny too, but this is just an experimental setup... to check & see how's the mileage... in terms of sound, suprisingly it sounds more refined & when throttled all the way to redline, vtec sounds more 'full'... overall, that sluggish-revving-engine-on-a-hot-day symptom has been significantly alleviated...
Project QKL1303? will try to drop by sometime... =)

Alamak brother....you using forced induction kah? Jangan monyet. Well maybe that is you but for me I still prefer the normal with the air filter...somehow it sounds a lot better with the HKS air filter...in regards to the mesh part, this is a little too unstable putting mesh wires to filter the dirt...I suggest you go check out Ah Teng, he has a free flowing air filter very similar to the Mugen mesh wire air filter...according to him, they all use it and found that the air flow is more than ordinary filters...doesn't cost much as well, around RM100 if I'm not mistaken.

been experimenting with different setups... used to be using HKS power flow, but an old & worn out one is no more efficient in filtering out the dirt than a wire mesh... already got another free flowing wire mesh air filter (cap ayam too) sitting in my boot; but will stick to this setup for this current full tank of fuel & see how well it goes... =)
