2 of my mates *mr. big balls revealed!* went on for a tryout on Route 999 & managed to put up good battles grappling with the vertical limit before succumbing to forces of gravity & fatigue. 2 thumbs up for their respective virgin efforts!

Photoshop Fun

Adding dynamic motion effects to a shot of a static car ~ just having fun experimenting with the Photoshop technique I’ve just picked up from the recent edition of the Digital Camera magazine…

From Rides

Actual shot of Roy's static car, taken last Sunday at the roadside leading to the entrance of Fairy Caves, Bau

From Rides

Edited shot with dynamic motion effects introduced

There are many ways to achieve this effect using Photoshop; I’ll just share a quick run thru on the tricks I applied to get it.

  1. Enhance the image’s colors & tones by boosting the levels via the Levels Adjustment Layer & increasing the colors via the Hue/Saturation Adjustment
  2. Select and extract the car from the background copy layer and paste the cutout as the top layer in the stack
  3. Perform selective color saturation and add shine to the car by manipulating the Hue/Saturation and Levels Adjustment layers respectively
  4. Add radial blur to the background image to give it a dynamic zoom motion
  5. Increase the scale of the car cutout layer using Free Transform to mask any blurring on the edges of the car
  6. Sharpen the detail of the car
  7. Add vignette to the image & flatten the layers
Have fun~! =)

Random Vids: Angels & Demons ~

Angels & Demons

This has been one hard movie to catch. Wanted to watch it last friday, but the tickets for the prime time shows were mostly sold out, left with only the front row seats when we went there. Finally got to watch it just hours ago, but had to put up with a little side-story drama of its own when for some unknown technical reasons, the flick got halted for a good 15 minutes which felt like an eternity, halfway through the show just when the story was building up to the climax. Despite all that, the movie still managed to keep me on the edge of my seat throughout; with suspense at every turn of the story, thanks to the superb punctuating sound tracks that flowed well with the plot. This is one of the better movies, i've seen this year.
Only realized that, this is the prequel to the Davinci Code... no wonder the characters & theme sounded so eeriely familiar *i did not read either of the books before*
Can't seem to find the embed code for the movie trailers, but the links can be found here:

Last day at work ~

*Warning ~ word-ful post ahead, maybe filled with jargons unknown to non-industry viewers

Dear Friends,
This day has come ~ my last working day with XXXXX. It has been a good 4-years since I first set foot into here, then known as XXXXX as a fresh graduate. Through the years, this journey has taken me through much ups & downs ~ i.e. from the good times of tasting immense satisfaction of succesfully finding closure to specific PSMs after much effort and time put into it; to the hard, frustrating times of having to deal with seemingly endless occurances of 'x-file' inhibitions and surviving Fab SPC (Cpk & OOC) reviews from month to month. Through it all, I have worked, argued, quarelled, laughed and learnt with the best of you. To everyone, THANK YOU for playing such a big part in this very important chapter of my life, especially in terms of my personal and professional growth.
It is time for me to move on and continue on my journey ~ to explore the new and more challenging horizons ahead. So before my outlook mail account gets terminated soon, thanks again for the support, guidance and encouragement, I really appreciate that! My sincere apologies for my mistakes and misbehaviours, if any =p
All the best to you guys, take care & keep in touch!

~ excerpts from my farewell mail which i took a great deal of time just to patch up together. Being in an industry where the staff turnover rate is relatively high, i've amassed a great collection of sometimes inspiring, sometimes funny aside from the usual solemn-formal-like farewell mails from many work comrades who have left before. I can't get any more original than this; i've longed for this day, when it finally came, i was just lost for words. That day was yesterday.
From Miscellaneous

When i returned my cleanroom gown & booties, and surrendered my badge ID after logging out for the one last time, i knew that i'll never set foot into another yellow room again...
It's not the place that i'll miss, but the great company of friends that i've met, which makes my memories here meaningful & worthwhile.
From Miscellaneous

One to be remembered for a long time ~ just one out of the many shots i'll remember my 1st job by... the rest may be too provocative or controversial to post here =p

Sunday Club: Rock Climbing @ Fairy Caves, Bau ~ 17th May

Weekend-to-weekend, from one extreme sports to the other… this is as extreme as it gets!

From Activities
How high again?
From Activities

Mile high!

From Activities

Got to have big balls to pick this sport…

From Activities

*yawn* however, this charming canine thinks otherwise… =p

From Activities

Spot the climber? It’s amazing to watch the how the climber scales up the seemingly-near-impossible-to-climb rock wall, with such agility, strength & speed. Oh, did I mention, that climber is a SHE.

On your mark, get set..

~buat kerja sendiri.. ~

~ is what i loved to hear from my teacher during my days as a school kid; it means we’d get to do our own stuffs in class without having to put up with dreaded boring lessons ~ a call usually made when the teacher is a) absent, b) preoccupied with other matters, or c) just plain lazy to teach; which, we welcomed with hoorays without fail each time.

It’s what I’ve been doing for the past few workdays… after all today is the eve of my last day at work. Time at work feels so hard to kill, to the extent that surfing the net is beginning to bore me as well; can’t help it since almost all my task ownerships have been passed-down *to my poor soon-to-be-overloaded trusty workmates… =p *

No reminiscing of the fond times I’ve had at this workplace, I’ve been wanting to leave so much, for so long… the work, I wouldn’t miss one bit, but I’ll definitely be missing the wonderful company of the amazing bunch of people I call colleagues ~ bradas & sistas I’ve grown close to, over these few years I’m here. We’ve had fun & spent tons of great time bonding together, despite the stressful & volatile nature of the sucky work we’re in; that only an insider would fully understand… Thank you for the memories! =D

I kept myself occupied today by cleaning up my cubicle & clearing up the mess; the next tenant can move in with ease. Also spent a great deal of the afternoon penning up my farewell e-mail which, I will be sending out just before I log out for one final time tomorrow…

Fancy a D.I.Y. Budget CTR?

The latest reincarnation of the legendary Civic Type-R in the handsome form of FD2R, is the dream ride many auto enthusiasts would lust after. At a premium price tag that fetches almost RM200k for a brand new unit, owning one would remain the stuff of dreams for many ~ the average wage-earning mass with conventional $$ commitments, the category in which, unfortunately most of us belong to; for maybe another 10 years to come, until it depreciates to a practical to afford price range. So what to do if you need the practicality of a 4-door sedan, want the extra oomph of a race-tuned engine, but you have to work the deal on a rather tight budget?

*photo from paultan.org
You shop for a 2nd hand FD-generation Civic, the baseline 1.8 model (2 to 3 years old maybe?) would probably fetch around, say RM90K.

Then you'll need to hunt for a FD2R complete car for sparepart ~ like this one found in the zerotohundred.com market place, all for RM43K. Yes, for less than RM50K it comes complete with everything, even the CD/MP3 player & push start button~!, although a similar conditioned unit will still fetch a price tag of above RM150K. The only catch is that it's not road legal; title declared as spare-part/track car in the custom form.
Swap the engine, the dash board, the aerokit, brake & suspension kit, and everything swappable into the Civic 1.8, then register it with JPJ you may ~ voilla, you have a converted FD2R, ready to race & fully road legal!

Used FD Civic 1.8 (RM90K) + FD2R Civic Type R complete parts (RM43K) + conversion cost - sales of swapped out Civic 1.8 parts = RM133K *assuming the sales of the swapped out used original parts can offset the conversion cost.
On papers, this looks quite like a bargain compared to purchasing a new FD2R Civic Type R (RM200K) or a used unit (RM180K ~ RM190K).

But then again, there lies the question of how to raise RM43K in cash *I do not have* & whether there is fundamental difference in chassis strength between a conversion from a 1.8 baseline model chassis & the genuine FD2R chassis…

As I'm typing out this, the FD2R complete car has just been sold. So there goes my dream of owning a ~R~ … =p

3 Things ~

2009 has been a good year for me, so far... i'm counting my blessings over these 3 life impacting events that had taken place throughout this short past half year... sometimes, i still wake up in the morning & wonder did it really happen? how did i get here? Just barely half year ago, i wouldn't in my wildest dream, imagine where i'd be today. I was struggling to make it through one of my low point cycles in life then... frustrated at getting nowhere in life & not knowing what to with it... Life is just full of suprises ~ pleasant at times & nasty at some... in a never ending cycle of ups & downs ~ just have to brace for the storm, persevere & weather through it when the low cycle comes; catch the wave & feed off the momentum when the next high cycle comes, & remember to cherish the good times... =)
met someone special...
From Miscellaneous

i finally moved on, from a stagnant plateau i've been dwelling in for most of the past 6 years...
*photos by our dear friend, Robin who's had to cope with a family loss recently ~ may he & his family find strength & comfort to weather through this storm...
From Miscellaneous

survived one that could have been a lot worse & walked away from it with barely a scratch...
* i would want to take up advance driving course someday
From Miscellaneous

earned an exciting opportunity to revive my already stagnant career...
i truly feel blessed =)

Shot from the Sunday Club ~ Mother's Day Edition =p

Happy belated mom's day to all the mommies out there! Not quite like the family-like post you'd expect... spent the sunday afternoon basking in the sun with my mate louis, to catch up some adrenaline rush inducing tarmac scorching action yesterday. Just my 2nd time to the event, & oh my, has the congregation grown in size (audience & avid trackers)... race horses from a broad spectrum of high performance breed ~ 350Zs, MR-S, FC & FD RX7s, EVOs 3, 4 & 8, WRX STis ver. 7 & 8, 2 R34 GTRs, 2 GTOs, FD2-R & a handful of A31 cefiros were spotted. In a month or 2 from now, it's going to grow into a weekly fiesta ~ at this rate, the only concern is that the track will be chocked with traffic & there'll be less action to see -_- Was just contented wacthing the action from the sideline this time round, snapped only a handful of pichas...
From Rides

From Rides

a Veilside kitted FD3S ~ a sleek rotary beast that ages well. I still dig the curves of this particular generation of the RX7
From Rides

a purpose built dragster based on the RX7 Savannah chassis ~ it may look like your grandpa's ride, but it sure is freaking fast!
From Rides

Ver.9 Rex squaring up with the dragster ~ the war paint it's spotting *rubber graze marks* is from a nasty introduction with the tire barricade in one nail-biting corner whacking incident during the tracking session earlier... also gone was its carbon fibre front aero lip extension... ouch!
From Rides

The beast leaving the scene ~ this 600+hp Wangan style GTR was featured in Hypertune mag a couple of issues ago... watching this monster tear down the strip at full boost is truly a euphoric experience =p

Random Vids: the 2009 NBA MVP has arrived~!

Events: Spring & Summer Fashion Show 2009 @ the Spring, Kuching

The past weekend had been an eventful one, *in terms of my 450D utilization*. First up was the gospel concert the night before, then we went to catch the 3rd-day action of the fashion week held at the Spring over the weekend, on Sunday. Being a normal guy, naturally anything that gets my adrenaline pumping *fast cars* & heartbeat pulsating *hot babes*, is reason enough for me to whip out my camera to fire away... =p

Events: SIB Grace N.O.W. @ Crowne Towers ~ 2nd May 2009

From Events

Tagged along with my good fellow kaki-photo, Louis to help Frankie of frankie c. photography cover a gospel concert ~ SIB Grace Night Of Worship last Saturday night. I may have missed the recent Sarawak Rock Party, but this one's just as good for me; enjoyed myself thoroughly througout the event shoot ~ splendid & uplifting performance & the crowd was just great! =)
Here are some of the few shots of i've taken for the event ~ all shot using EF50mm f1.8 lens courtesy of brada Louis + w/o flash. I liked how the stage lighting effects turn out to be in the pictures; but had to live with the increased noise, as i had to dial up the ISO speed to 800 or higher, to retain the ambience for most of the time during the concert. Enjoy!

Playoff Crunch Time

Celtics Vs Bulls ~ 6 games & 7 overtimes, this battle is turning out to be an epic playoff series, perhaps of all time...

Of all the games, i've only managed to catch the recent game 6 live ~ the final moments of the regulation time *like the last 1.5 minutes* on my way out for a supposedly breakfast date, before i got hooked on the action & the game turned out to be a thrilling triple-OT affair ~ resulted in me being an hour late & the supposed breakfast date became a lunch date! *sorry, dear* =p
Can't wait to see the outcome of the decisive Game 7 to be played on May 2nd... though, like most fans, i'll be anticipating to see a showdown between King James' Cavaliers vs Kobe's Lakers in the finals... =)

short update...

From Events
Just a quick update on the Breeze Magazine Launch Kuching @ V.A. that i was supposed to attend tonight, but due to unforeseen circumstances, the initial 20 slots for invited bloggers had been reduced to half & me & my girl had to sit out for the event since we weren't shortlisted... *we caught Wolverine Origins at the big screen instead, so it wasn't too bad* So i'll just have to be contented reading coverage about the event from the lucky ones who're attending...
The finalists for the model search feature as part of the event; one of them is my part-time model work mate ~ go Chris! We support you! =)
